Yacht Painting Phuket

Superyacht Repaints, Fairing and Topcoats

Painting is all we do. Yachts in Phuket can request a quotation, with the work done by our Thailand team at Ocean Marina. Full repaints, partial repaints, topcoat and paint repairs, metallic blending, varnish and brightwork, for motor and sailing yachts over 30 metres.

Awlgrip · Alexseal · Awlcraft 3000

Yacht painting for owners and captains in Phuket, done to a superyacht standard. Superyacht Painters' team has been painting, fairing and finishing yachts since 1990. Owners and captains of yachts in Phuket and on the Andaman coast are welcome to request a quotation, and the work is carried out by our Thailand team based at Ocean Marina, Thailand. The team works through our sister company, Yacht Refit Asia, so one team can run the paint package on its own or as part of a wider refit. The same paint systems, humidity limits and daily records apply to every programme.

Yacht painting for Phuket-based yachts

Many yachts spend the Andaman season, roughly November to April, in Phuket. Owners and captains of yachts in Phuket and on the Andaman coast are welcome to request a quotation for a full repaint, partial repaint, fairing, topcoat repairs or GRP repair. The work is carried out by our Thailand team based at Ocean Marina, Thailand, where the yacht can be inspected, hauled out when the work needs it and painted under cover. We do not have an office in Phuket.

Our proof is real Thailand and Asia work: M/Y Sea Pearl (60 m), faired and repainted in Alexseal at Bangkok Dock; M/Y Victon (41 m), paint repairs and metallic blending in Awlcraft 3000 at Ocean Marina; and S/Y Merrymaid (34 m), fairing repairs and a full Awlgrip repaint at Bangkok Dock. Across Asia our team also works in Singapore and Haiphong, Vietnam. Our yacht painting Thailand page covers our Ocean Marina base and Bangkok work.

Planning a repaint for a yacht in Phuket

A good paint result starts months before the first sanding disc touches the yacht. For a yacht that spends the season in Phuket, the paint period has to fit around charters, owner trips and crew leave, so we plan it with the captain well ahead:

  1. First look, from the yacht. The captain sends photos, the paint history and any earlier paint reports. From these we give an initial view of whether the job looks like a repair, a partial repaint or a full repaint.
  2. Window and yard space. We agree the dates the yacht is free, then book covered space, materials and the team at Ocean Marina, Thailand, so everything is ready when she arrives.
  3. Passage and arrival. The yacht's own captain and crew plan the passage to Ocean Marina on the Gulf of Thailand. We agree the arrival date and the work programme before she sails.
  4. Inspection and written scope. On arrival the existing paint is surveyed, film thickness and adhesion checked where needed, and the scope confirmed in writing before work starts.
  5. Handover. The yacht leaves with the finish signed off panel by panel and the full application record, ready for the next season.

Repair, partial repaint or full repaint?

Not every tired finish needs a full repaint. As a general guide, and always confirmed by inspection:

  • Topcoat repair or polish. Local scratches, fender marks and small chips, where the paint around them is still sound and glossy.
  • Partial repaint. Damage or wear concentrated in one area, such as the bow, transom or one side of the superstructure, where the rest of the system is in good order and the colour can be matched or blended.
  • Full repaint. Widespread loss of gloss, chalking, cracking or adhesion failure, a colour change, or a finish that has already been repaired many times. A full repaint takes the system back to a sound substrate and rebuilds it to the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair first. Where there is GRP, gelcoat or core damage, or composite damage under the paint, it is repaired and faired before any paint goes on.

Yacht painting services for Phuket yachts

  • Full repaints. Hull, topsides and superstructure taken back to a sound substrate, faired, primed and finished. See our superyacht full repaint page.
  • Partial repaints and topcoat repairs. Damaged or tired areas brought back to match the surrounding finish.
  • Fairing. Filling and longboarding to a true, fair shape, checked under raking light. More on our superyacht fairing page.
  • Metallic blending. Colour identification, test panels and careful masking, as on the 41 m M/Y Victon in Awlcraft 3000.
  • GRP and composite repair. Laminate, core, gelcoat and osmosis repairs made before paint and finished by our own painters. See GRP repair in Thailand.
  • Varnish and brightwork, and hull painting below and above the waterline.

Awlgrip and Alexseal systems

Our main topside systems are Awlgrip and Alexseal, both complete systems from primer and filler through to polyurethane topcoat. Awlgrip gives a hard, high-gloss, long-lasting topcoat, with Awlcraft 3000 where repairability matters, such as metallics and areas likely to need touch-ups. Alexseal is known for depth of gloss and ease of repair, and was used for the full exterior repaint of the 60 m M/Y Sea Pearl in Bangkok. We also apply International, Jotun and Hempel systems where a yacht's existing specification calls for them. We never mix systems within a build-up. Our Awlgrip vs Alexseal guide compares the two.

How a painting programme runs

  1. Inspection and written scope. We survey the existing paint, check film thickness and adhesion where needed, and agree repair, partial repaint or full repaint in writing.
  2. Preparation. Masking, tenting and containment protect the yacht, the yard and neighbouring boats. Old coatings are sanded or removed back to a sound substrate, and composite or metal repairs are completed first.
  3. Fairing. Fairing compound specified for the chosen system, such as Awlfair in an Awlgrip build-up, with each layer given its full cure before sanding.
  4. Priming and surfacing. Each coat goes on within the recoat window on the manufacturer's data sheet, with Shore D hardness checks before the next layer.
  5. Topcoat. Spray-applied in controlled conditions, or by roller, brush and tip where a classic yacht calls for it, with colour confirmed on test panels first.
  6. Inspection and handover. Gloss, colour, film build and finish checked with the captain panel by panel, and the full application record handed over.

During the job, progress is shared with twice-daily photos in the YRA Project Status App.

Painting in Thailand's climate

Temperature and humidity log recorded during a composite repair on M/Y Kahala
We record temperature, humidity and dew point throughout every programme (log from M/Y Kahala, Singapore).

Humidity is the biggest risk to a yacht finish in Thailand. So we work to fixed rules: application stops at 75% relative humidity, we aim for 20 to 25°C, the surface stays above the dew point, and critical coats go on inside controlled enclosures with dehumidifiers. Conditions are logged for every coat.

Why owners and captains choose us

  • Painters, not generalists. Painting, fairing and finishing has been our team's only focus since 1990.
  • Based in Thailand. Our Thailand team is at Ocean Marina Jomtien, with Yacht Refit Asia's head office in Singapore.
  • A recorded build-up for every coat, to the manufacturer's standard.
  • One team for paint and refit through our sister company, Yacht Refit Asia.
  • Thailand track record including M/Y Sea Pearl (60 m), S/Y Douce France (42 m), M/Y Victon (41 m) and S/Y Merrymaid (34 m). See our projects.

Frequently asked questions

Can a yacht in Phuket request a quotation?

Yes, for full repaints, partial repaints, fairing, topcoat repairs, metallic blending and GRP repair on yachts over 30 metres. Yachts in Phuket and on the Andaman coast are welcome to contact us for a quotation, and the work is carried out by our Thailand team based at Ocean Marina, Thailand.

Where have you painted yachts in Thailand?

Our Thailand projects to date have been at Ocean Marina and Bangkok Dock, including M/Y Sea Pearl (60 m), M/Y Victon (41 m) and S/Y Merrymaid (34 m). Those projects show the process and standard our Thailand team brings to every yacht.

Where are you based in Thailand?

Our Thailand base is Ocean Marina in Na Jomtien on the Gulf of Thailand. We do not have an office in Phuket.

Where is the work carried out?

By our Thailand team based at Ocean Marina, Thailand, on the Gulf of Thailand, where the yacht can be inspected, hauled out when needed and painted inside controlled enclosures.

Can you give a quotation from photos?

Photos, the paint history and earlier paint reports let us give an initial view of the likely scope. A firm written scope follows once the yacht has been inspected.

Does my yacht need a full repaint?

Not always. Local damage on an otherwise sound, glossy finish can often be repaired or partially repainted and blended. Widespread chalking, cracking, loss of gloss or adhesion failure usually points to a full repaint. We confirm which after inspection.

How long does a yacht repaint take?

It depends on the size of the yacht, how far the existing coatings must come off, the repairs and fairing needed and the paint system. We agree a written programme with the scope, so the paint period can be planned around the yacht's season.

Which paint systems do you use?

Mainly Awlgrip (including Awlcraft 3000) and Alexseal for topsides. We also apply International, Jotun and Hempel systems where the yacht's specification calls for them, always to the manufacturer's data sheets.

How do you handle Thailand's humidity?

We stop application at 75% relative humidity, aim for 20 to 25°C, keep the surface above the dew point and log conditions throughout, using enclosures and dehumidifiers where needed.

How do I request a quotation?

Email info@superyachtpainters.co.uk or call +66 (0)80 829 0122 (Thailand) with the yacht's length, where she lies, photos and the work you have in mind. We will review them, agree how and where the yacht is inspected, and send a written scope.
