China builds more yachts every year, and its builders increasingly sell to owners who expect a European superyacht finish. Paint is where that expectation is most visible, and where a delivery date is most often lost. Superyacht Painters Ltd offers Chinese builders and owners a specialist paint subcontractor and inspection team with over 40 years' experience.

China is a new market for us, and we do not claim past projects there. Our team travels to China and works globally, or your yacht can come to us in Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam. Our offer is based on new-build and refit paint work delivered in Europe and Asia.

For yacht builders: new-build paint packages

A new-build paint package takes the hull and superstructure from bare substrate to final topcoat. We can take on:

  • Fairing plan and execution: fairing compound applied and longboarded to true lines. About superyacht fairing.
  • Full paint system: primer, undercoats and topcoat to the manufacturer's specification in Awlgrip, Alexseal, International, Jotun or Hempel.
  • Training and supervision: our lead fairers and sprayers can work alongside the yard's own team.
  • Documentation: application records and inspection reports that owners, brokers and class expect at delivery.

Our new-build record includes M/Y Kogo (72 m) at Alstom Leroux Naval in France, the Hyundai Yachts G40 (40 m) in South Korea and a series of three 33 m new builds in Vietnam in Alexseal, still in progress.

For owners: independent paint inspection

If your yacht is being built or refitted in China, an independent paint inspector protects your investment. We check surface preparation, film thickness, application conditions and the final finish against the specification, and report to you, not the yard.

Why paint decides delivery

Fairing and painting come at the end of a build, when time is shortest. Poor environmental control, rushed cure times or an unclear standard lead to rework. A clear written specification, agreed before work starts, avoids most of these disputes. Compare Awlgrip and Alexseal to understand the main system choice.

How we would work with a Chinese yard

  1. Specification review: we review drawings, the paint specification and the build schedule.
  2. Site visit: we assess paint sheds, environmental control and access.
  3. Scope options: full subcontract, supervision of the yard's team, or inspection only.
  4. Delivery: daily records, staged inspections and a hand-over pack.

Frequently asked questions

Have you worked in China before?

Not yet, and we do not claim past projects there. Our team travels to China, or your yacht can come to us in Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam. Our Asian record includes Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Can you supply just supervision rather than a full team?

Yes. We can supervise and train the yard's painters or act as independent inspectors for the owner.

Do you do new builds as well as refits?

Yes. New-build painting is a large part of our history. See our full repaint page for refit work.

Which standard do you work to?

The paint manufacturer's specification and the owner's agreed finish standard, with class requirements where they apply.
